Doctors in India have finally got their own medical book that aims to change the face of the profession.
The book titled Doctors are the Future of Medicine (DTM) has been released by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
The book, by Dr Ashish Kapoor, a former professor of orthopaedic surgery at Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been launched in India on Thursday.
Dr Kapoor was one of the first Indian doctors to set up the World Medical Organisation in 1996.
His book, The Future of Doctors, is set to be released in January.
“Doctors are no longer the future,” said Dr Kapoor.
“Our mission is to educate and inspire.
We want to change mindsets and give people confidence in the profession.”
The book contains a list of the top 50 doctors in the world.
It also features the top 100 best surgeons in the country and a list showing the top 20 medical schools.
Dr Kalpana Dutt, chief medical officer of the Indian Association of Medical Educators, said the book will help doctors in India to become more proactive.
“Our mission has always been to empower doctors.
This book will bring about a change,” she said.
Dr Dutt said the aim of the book was to bring a change in the mindsets of doctors.
“We have seen that doctors have a tendency to be pessimistic about the future and they are not willing to take on the challenge.
We are trying to change that,” she added.
The new book is being launched at a time when many of the country’s top doctors have announced they will retire.
Dr Kapur said he did not know the precise date for the release.
Dr Ashish said the project was supported by a number of private donors.
“There are some people who are donating a lot and there are others who are not,” he said.
