A senior administration official told Breitbart News on Monday that the VP will meet with the group’s members and members of Congress on Tuesday to discuss appointments, including appointments for VA Secretary Mike Pompeo.
A veteran service member who attended the meeting, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the topic, told Breitbart the VP is expected to include a request to make appointments to the veterans group as part of his request for a new VA Secretary.
The veteran service representative also noted that the group has been waiting for more than two years for the appointment of Pompeo, a nominee to serve as the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
According to the veteran service rep, the VP and his team are expected to brief the veterans about the VA’s progress and the VA Secretary’s responsibilities as the lead administrator for the VA.
The VP is currently in Mexico, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly.
Pence is set to visit Israel later in the week.
A senior White House official confirmed the meeting on Monday.
Pence, who is traveling on Air Force One, has met with the veterans groups in the past.
Last week, the Vice President met with some of the veterans in an Oval Office meeting.
The Vice President’s meeting with veterans on Tuesday will be the first time the President has met the group in person.
The group met with Pence last week, but the Vice Pres was not present during the meeting.
However, the Veterans Affairs Committee has been meeting with Pence’s office to discuss the appointment.
The Veterans Affairs and Veterans Affairs Committees are the main committees tasked with crafting the new VA secretary.
They have been in discussions about Pompeo for several weeks and the VP met with them at the end of May.
During that meeting, Pence asked that they include Pompeo in the VA, as they want him to focus on the VA as the primary focus of the new administration.
Pompeo was previously named Secretary of Defense.
However the Veterans affairs committee has also been in talks with the White House about Pompeos plans to be secretary.
The new VA chief is expected in the coming weeks.
The appointment of Pence has been a major sticking point between the veterans and the White Houses offices.
In a May meeting with members of the VA committee, a VA spokesperson said that the committee was concerned about Pompey’s ties to the pharmaceutical industry, including ties to a former CEO of Pfizer.
The VA has since released a statement saying that Pence’s appointment is not connected to the healthcare crisis.
Pompey has also received support from former Vice President Joe Biden, who was instrumental in securing the appointment from then-President Donald Trump.
